If it Quacks, it’s a Duck??? What am I??

We had a visitor to our yard last week.  Strange looking thing…

We think we know what it is….but what do you think??

We think it is a female turkey…

Thanks for visiting…

  1. Katahleen...not a turley at all but a Guinea hen. Lucky to have them visit you too.....they are the BEST tick eaters :)

  2. Kathleen-I see that Mrs. P says it is not a turkey but a hen. I would have bet turkey too-- Husband is an avid turkey hunter ('scuse me--Mr. Rainbow :). Looks like your Easter was perfect. I can't wait to have "egg hunters" in the family again!

  3. Wasn't it beautiful Sunday? I loved your pictures and beautiful flowers. I am inspired!
    Enjoy the sun today!

  4. It WAS a beautiful Easter Sunday here on LI, wasn't it? Your family brought you beautiful flowers - looks like everyone had a great time!

  5. I agree with Mrs. P...I think it's a guinae hen. Don't know a thing about them though.

Your flowers are lovely, Kathleen. Looks like you had a lovely Easter. And lucky you to have had a dry day.

  6. What beautiful flowers...and a turkey! Indeed!!! Happy day to you! Cathy

  7. Hi Kathleen,
    Looks like a lovely day.
We had guinea hens in the grove several years ago. They always reminded me of a group of old lady in their polka dot dresses having a gab fest. Fun :)

  8. Mystery solved... it's a guinea hen. What a fun visitor. My grandparents had them on their farm in NC.

Beautiful flowers, too. Glad the weather was warm for your Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday.

  9. Beautiful flowers, Kathleen.
Wow, a guinea hen in the middle of suburbia...something I would expect here In the Middle Of Nowhere!

  10. A hen came to visit you? Doesn't she realize you hate pets? Hope she didn't leave you a present :)

  11. She doesn't look anything like the wild turkeys we had stroll through our yard so I think guinea fowl must be right. Hopefully, she won't make it into one of your pot pies ;)

What a glorious day you had. It looks like summer there based on the attire! Beautiful flowers and baskets.

  12. At first I would have guessed a turkey, but I couldn't tell how big it was. When I checked that guinea fowl site, it sure does look like a guinea hen! We get a lot of turkeys coming onto our lot from the woods in the back and they are pretty big.

  13. Hmmmm...it LOOKS like a turkey...kind of...but...no...I am thinking it is something else...a turkey has a long tail. And the spots indicate to me that it's a Guinea. Yep, I just googled it.

Your flowers are fabulous and...an outdoor shower? WOW! How amazing to have an outdoor shower.
Your grass is already so green. Our's is still brown here. We have Bermuda and it greens up a little later in the season.

So glad you had a wonderful Easter. We did, too. Our weather was also perfect for the day.

I know what you mean about being so tired. I nearly always have to take a day or two to rest up after a holiday.

  14. Guinea for sure! Love your beautiful florals, the arbor & trellis ... to die for.

    Have a beautiful week.
    TTFN ~ Hugs, Marydon

  15. Looks like a turkey to me!

All your flower gifts are beautiful - you will get a head start! The kids look like they were enjoying the Egg Hunt..Glad you had such a nice day!

  16. Yep, Guinnea Fowl - your yard is so beautiful and beds are so inviting no wonder he/she showed up. Careful, though, they rarely travel solo unless they have to, and it is spring, after all. I sure miss the ones I had to leave behind at my old house. They roost in trees at night, usually the same one. Funny birds. And fast!

  17. What a lovely gift from your family. And the tablescape is gorgeous!

  18. Well, I learned from the comments that he is a Guinea hen. Very interesting! Love your basket of flowers on the door, and that pretty pot of flowers your family gave you. Your yard looks so nice. Glad you are finally without snow. laurie

  19. That is a guinea hen. We had a turkey in our yard last year and it was chasing a deer.

  20. That is a very pretty (and fat!) Guinea hen. I never saw one before.

Easter was such a beautiful day, wasn't it? Perfect weather for an Easter egg hunt!
Your grandchildren look like they were having fun!

    ♥ Pat

  21. The turkey is cute! Your Easter basket is gorgeous! What a thoughtful family you have and the easter egg hunt looked like a lot of fun. I don't sing in public, Kathleen, guests might leave, lol. I only sing at home....Christine

  22. Whether it is turkey hen or Guinea, you got some really good shots if it. All your flowers are beautiful. I love flowers.

  23. YOur hen is just beautiful! What a treat for you to see and then to share with us. I love the basket of pansies on your door. I will "borrow" that idea for next year. It looks so pretty.

And our Alma! Oh, I am so happy for her! She is such an acomplished woman, and I'm so proud of her!

    Hey, thanks for following!

  24. What a very pretty hen... i love her spots.
Your weather looks like it was perfect!! And your new plants are all beautiful!!

  25. You leave that little sweet thing alone! NO CRANBERRY! Don't make me call PETA on you :)

    Your flowers are beautiful!

I also adore your tablescape in your header.

  26. I always think of Guinea Hens as being pets, not roaming free. I follow a blogger who had them and adored each and every one.

I love all your flowers, especially the Pansies in the basket! Which reminds me I need to pick some up!

  27. I see Guinea Hen has been ID'd. I think they are pretty. I love their black and white feathers. Their eggs are supposed to be very good. I am sure I've had a guinea egg way back in the olden days, since my grandparents kept chickens.

I just saw Sharon's comment. Granddad had a beautiful white long feathered chicken, he kept as a pet and entered in the Fair, winning a few ribbons.

I've seen Guinea's roaming around yards out in the country, here in Missouri.

  28. The Kitchen Gnome says guinea hen. Its feathers look so soft!

  29. Pass the cranberry sauce?? hehe, Kathleen, your a hoot! Love the pretty outdoor pics!
    Have a nice Wednesday!

  30. Gosh this is a no brainer as I know what you are preparing for Foodie Friday already:)

  31. Wow! I have not seen Guinea Hens since I lived in Conn. Great capture. Your flowers are very lovely. Looks like everyone had fun at the Easter egg hunt. Pretty tablescape in your header.

  32. Hi you cute thing!

All your commenters made me laugh... such fun stuff.

I loved the shot from behind of your kids taking photos of THEIR kids. Isnt the circle of life so fun?

If you get a change to join us on Friday~~Finding Beauty I would love for you to share your Beauty! Its lovely.

If you get a chance would love for you to stop by and say hi.

    TTFN Claudia ♥ ♥

  33. What a lovely day you had for the family celebration! The kids look like they are having fun finding eggs in the backyard :) Can't wait to see that beautiful clematis climbing the trellis!

  34. Kathleen, if Ms. Guinea stayed around, her eggs are WONDERFUL!! They are little, but oh so tasty!
Your yard is lovely even at the end of winter. Our st Augustine grass is not fully green yet, so even Texas doesn't look that good!
    Hugs to you,

  35. Another good thing about Guinea'a They are very protective of their territory. NO SNAKES ALLOWED!!! They make great pets too. Their sound is a blessing to listen too:). Everything was beautiful Dear:) Enjoyed your sharing with us.
