Peppermint Stripes and Checks, OH MY! Let’s Dish #91

A week from today is Christmas! Doesn’t it seem like we just did Thanksgiving?  The older I get, the faster the time goes, and the longer it takes to get everything done!

Well of course, when I was younger I never had time to go to lunch with friends during the school year, and never during the Cmas season!  But today, I had a little shopping trip and lunch with my loooong time friend, Gail. We had a lovely time catching up, one of the joys of being retired!

You know Gail, the one who gifts me with all those wonderful tablescaping goodies!  We found some bargains at Christmas Tree Shop.  She had a great iphone app, so we got 20% off our whole order!  I think I need an iphone.

I’ll save what I got for another post, on to tonight’s table!

Nothing on this table is new.  I started with a red and white snowflaked check cloth I got for 90% off last year AFTER Cmas.  I think it came to 2.00, and it is cotton.

Next came the lacey charger from Ikea that Alma gave me for my birthday.

A red and white swirled plate, a lacey white plate, and then a little bowed bowl, all from CTS.

The centerpiece is an inverted striped bowl with a red ruffled bowl on top.  I used oasis and filled it with fresh greens, mums, babies breath and candy canes.  I used a snowflake embroidered doily underneath.  My friend’s mom made them many years ago. It reminded me of the edge of the charger.

Napkins are dish towels from CTS, and the red flatware is by Cambridge, via CTS.  The little candy striped butter plates were .25 after Cmas.  Candy striped salt and pepper shakers were 1.00.

I used a floor length cloth underneath the checked.

Red stems are from CTS.  The striped pitcher is by Nautica via  I used a polka dot pedestal to stack the striped boxes of cookies as a take home.

A little striped spoon from WS is used for a place marker.

DH is feeling well enough to make the traditional Rugelach.  Thank goodness, as I don’t know how, and I don’ t want to learn or it will become my job!

  1. This is as cute as can be! I just love it, Kathleen. Those dishes! I love red and white, and this table says, Christmas fun!

  2. Kathleen, I can't find the Linky. May just be me. Probably is me! ;-)

  3. While I am waiting, I meant to say how much I love the lacy chargers that Alma gave you and that delicious dessert your DH made... So glad he is feeling better.

I might run go eat and come back to link!

  4. Love your red and white table! That rugelach looks delicious and it's great to hear Mike is feeling better.

  5. Hi Kathleen - Oh my goodness, I wish you lived in my town so I could borrow this entire table for our Candy Canes and Cocktails party. I'm linking the Partyscape tonight, and you will see it's still lacking some items. But like you purchased everything after Christmas... half the fun is in the hunt for the perfect pieces! Merry Christmas to you and Yours. Hugs, Holly

  6. Love your red and white table with the candy cane pieces Kathleen! Glad your hubby is feeling well enough to bake :)

  7. Kathleen this table is so cute. I love the lacy chargers! My table is polar (pun intended) opposite to yours.:-)
So happy to hear your husband is feeling better!
I'll try to remember to stop by Monday or Tuesday. Not sure if I will have a table. We'll see. In case I don't get to come by then, I'm wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!

  8. Kathleen, a red and white table for Christmas is one of my favorites! I have never seen those adorable napkins previously - love them!! All of your pieces are wonderful, especially the pitcher. What a fun table!!

  9. Hey, Kathleen! I see that spoon has an "A" on it, so that must be MY place setting? Correct? :-) Thanks for having me over! ;-)

You say nothing on the table is new, and that's what makes it extra cool. You've once again created something that looks totally fresh with things you already have on hand. That's the way to design!!!

I have been very careful NOT to go online to see CTS. I don't want Ramon to put me out in the cold at Christmas time for spending too much!

Thanks again for hosting this terrific blog party!!! Have a great weekend as you scurry to get things done!

  10. Kathleen,
This is a really good red and white table...I had to look at it several times because there is just something really beautiful about it....I am glad your husband is feeling good enough to do the Rugelach.. Merry Christmas to you..

    Love, Mona

I'm so happy for you that Mike is feeling well enough to make the rugelach. I wasn't going to join in tonight, but decided to share my tea vignette. Thank you for hosting and I sure wish I had one of those rugelach...mmmmm!

  14. Such pretty and fun table. I love red, specially this season to be jolly and happy! The snowflakes, glasses, all is cheery! Happy your hubby is doing well, this way you can enjoy C'mas much more. Thank you for the party. Yummy rugelach...they look sooo good!

Wow, to have a DH who makes Rugelach - yummy! Glad M is feeling better! Now, all you need is a little snow outside those windows...that grass looks a bit too green for my taste! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Kathleen!

  18. Such a great table. My favorite things are the "tablecloths" that match the dishes.

I'm glad you are going to do the challenge again next year. I"ll have to keep my eye out for a Christmas table and NOT FORGET to save the picture.

  30. Everything looks very pretty K! I have a similar snowflake tablecloth and look forward to using it each year! I agree, Christmas sure got here quickly this year-enjoy:@)

  31. I love your table, and I'm really glad I saw your centerpiece. I was going to buy one from the grocery store for Sunday's family get-together, but I can make one like yours for a lot less money, I think I can use a Christmas coffee mug and it will look cute. Great idea with the white flowers and candy canes. Merry Christmas!

  32. "Peppermint" is such a cheerfully festive theme for the holidays! In fact, it's one of my favorites, and I included it as one of the first themes in the daily Themes of Christmas series I'm doing. Your table is a treat for young and old alike! ...So thankful your hubby is feeling better! (TOTALLY understand what you mean about not wanting to take on a new task!) Merry Christmas, Kathleen!

  33. I am running soooo far behind! We DID just celebrate Thanksgiving. Lovin' all of the red and white stripes and candy cane references on your table. Great idea to use the inverted bowl to elevate your centerpiece. Thanks so much for hosting. laurie

  34. Oh my what a gorgeous festive table!! That's the one thing that I really miss this christmas, is the candy canes. Haven't been able to find them anywhere here in Denmark this year :(
Thank you so much for your encouraging invitation. Merry Christmas

  35. Such a happy~happy table, Kathleen!! I'm so impressed with all the wonderful bargains you are able to find but even more so, with the way you are able to mix & match & use them in so many different ways.

I'm also thrilled to hear that Mike was well enough to bake! Yippee!! He is truly a blessing & I know it was your good care that got him through that horrible ordeal.

    Mega Hugs to you both,

  36. I have a few candy cane dishes and I would love some of yours! They just make such a wonderfully magical table for the kids. It looks too pretty and green outside your windows! Have a wonderful Christmas!

  37. You have put this together so beautifully!

My ex used to make rugelach with his grandma. Glad he is feeling up to baking! That is a good sign!

  39. Kathleen, love this so much as I am always partial to red. Those chargers and placemats are so cute -- the whole table is fresh and bright, and such good bargains. The rugelach looks wonderful.. Have a Merry Christmas. Joni

  40. Love your candy stripes....playful and fun. The doily reminds me that I have a box of them somewhere that I saved from my mother's. I think I should get them out and see what I can do with them.

  41. Oh such a cute table! I love the candy striped dishes! I'm done for the season. Wrapping up some gifts and relaxing.
Have yourself a Very Merry Christmas!
