Let's Dish # 15~ Pre Holiday Luncheon

Since this  weekend, there will be so many July 4th celebrations, and by the next meeting of Let's Dish, the holiday will be over, I did a little pre holiday table.
Let's Dish 914
I was having a few cousins over for lunch, so I went with a little red, white and blue.
Let's Dish 909
It was so windy I had to move the table on to the covered porch to give us a little protection.
I used a red and white cloth from TJMaxx, sq chargers from the Pfaltzgraff $ day sale, $2.00, Red square plates from the same sale, 1.00.
Stems are from Dansk.
Let's Dish 913
Flatware from HG, napkins from Kohls, and napkin rings from CTS,   .25
Let's Dish 912
Handled soup bowls by Hutchenreuther, Germany.

Simple centerpiece of blue hydrangeas in a white pitcher.

I just took a few quick pics before we ate, no time to fuss for a photo shoot!  :)

I had to keep it simple, 3 men were dining there and they don't like a lot of accoutrements, :)!

We had baked clams,  Long Island Clam Chowder, Spinach salad with apples, pecans, feta , red onion and

bacon.  Bow tie and snow pea pasta salad and sliced filet mignon.

Let's Dish 918One of the desserts was an indiv  white cake  , cream cheese icing, fresh blueberries and whipped cream.
Let's Dish 921
I made them in this pan by Wilton. Recipe here.  I subbed 2 xl whole eggs and cut the sugar back.
Let's Dish 925Let's Dish 916
Tip...
Make a bunch of these and keep them in the freezer. Pull them out when needed for a great summer dessert filled with fresh fruit and whipped cream or some ice cream.

Thanks so much for your good wishes on our son and dil's 5th baby!  I appreciate them!

  1. Kathleen, such a sweet thought to have a new little one in your family. Lucky little guy! I'm trying to pull something together for this week's Let's Dish. Hate that I missed last week. ;-(

  5. Eamon is a beautiful baby boy!

Your table is wonderful Kathleen. I love the cloth.

I am working on a table, nautical red, white and blue, but not necessarily 4th of July. We are at the lake for a couple of days. I brought the dishes, a new treasure, from home. I hope to post the table before we leave Friday.

We needed a break from "house" work! The lake is the perfect solution.

I managed to get my seashore table published. That is the one I will link tonight.

  6. Oh, Eamon is so precious!

Very nice luncheon table, and not too "froofie" for the guys. Love the flatware. Pfaltzgraff Dollar Day Sale? Lucky you, to score those plates and chargers! I never thought about freezing little cakes...thanks for the tip!

  7. What a beautiful baby boy. So sweet and innocent! I think your 'simple' table is just right for the 4th and your menu sounds delicious as always. I feel bad that I missed last week :/ and am missing this week, but on the bright side for me I am getting things scratched off my lengthy to-do list. Hope to be back partying very soon. I really need to post, it has been a full week already. xo

  12. The little cakes look yummy, but I could just eat that baby's cheeks right up! What a little cutie! There's nothing like the smell of a new baby! Their little heads smell like heaven! I think I have all the grandchildren I'm going to get: 1! That's what happens when you have an only child. You put together a great table for your cousins. It is just so wild that you got those great placemats for just $2!!!! I found some for $6 and thought I was getting the deal of the century. ;-) Thanks for hosting again today!

  13. Sweet baby boy -- congratulations all around!

Your table is wonderful and the food sounds delicious. What is L.I. clam chowder? I have heard of New England and Manhattan styles, but not Long Island. Your idea about freezing the cakes is fantastic. I am really trying to watch the sugar, so it would be great to have a real cake with less.

    1. It is New England, Ellen. But I used to make it with my fourth graders and we used ingredients from LI, hence it became LI Chowder! :)

We learned recently that we will have a new grandbaby by Christmas -- our son's first child. Your festive table looks great! I really love that tablecloth and the star napkins. 43. Congrats on your family's newest arrival. He is so precious! I love that tablecloth. I also really love how this is not a traditional looking patriotic red white and blue setting but is still very appropriate for the 4th. You always show us so many wonderful ways to entertain. Funny about the men, my men are the same too, not so keen on all the fluff. LOL! Thanks for hosting this week and so sorry I missed last weeks. I will have a beach setting soon though! Happy 4th of July to you and your family!
