January Grays~This One's for the Boys! Let's Dish #42

Good evening, hope the first 9 days of 2013 were good for you!

Don't forget the Jan. 23 challenge is SNOW or ICE or Winter related.  Hope you will put on your woolen caps and think of something!  Southern gals, I know this might be tough for you, especially if you don't get much winter weather...

It was a gray day here, not cold, but gloomy.

Dec 2012 263I had 2 of these gray wool fringed throws that I have never used..  Kohl's, after the season, so I think they were 5 bucks each.  I think they look a little masculine, so I tried to keep that look.
The salt and peppers are from Pfaltzgraf Tent Sale, 1.00...
Dec 2012 265  The centerpiece is a pip berry white wreath with a hurricane and wintery white candle
The ribbed glassware has a black foot, so I went with gray, black and white.
Dec 2012 266
Black charger, gray rimmed plate with a white center from the .99 store.
Dec 2012 268
Treble clef black flatware, black white and gray check napkins, .96 clearance.
Lions head covered soup bowls from WS Outlet.
Little lion head bowls for our butter from Target..
Dec 2012 261
Black mugs by Nautica.  I got them years ago at the Pflaltzgraf Clearance center for .26, and they are made in the USA!  The glasses were from there too.

It closed several years ago, and maybe it is a good thing as they had fantastic deals.  There was always something new.   You really could get carried away! (One time the fire alarms went off and the whole group of stores had to be evacuated.  I hadn't been able to complete my purchase, so I walked to another part of the outlet, shopped, and then went back to pay for my bargains!)

No little fire was stopping me, lol!  I know, that is really pathetic.  I am reformed.  :)

People used to go there and buy things and put it on ebay and charge unreal prices!

I hope you are cozy and warm this winter day!

That's it for my simple, manly table.  DH doesn't like a lot of "accoutrements" cluttering up the table, so perhaps he will approve of this one.

He does like food cluttering the table, and this is last night's dinner...
Dec 2012 257
Romaine salad with feta and bacon, shrimp, and seafood cakes...  I made the cakes  with shrimp, crab, onion, celery, lemon juice, egg, a little mayo and breadcrumbs...
Form into a patty, dredge in Panko crumbs and brown...
Dec 2012 260
Place in oven to finish baking..  Top with horseradish sauce mixed with mayo.  You can make them small as an appy.  These are dinner size...

I look forward to seeing what you have this week.

  5. I love the table, Kathleen. Those throws are so pretty from Kohl's. I also love the cable knit one over the chair. Your dinner looks delish. I thought you didn't like seafood!! Thanks for hosting your party. It's cold down here in Texas, so I'll be prepared for your party on the 23rd.

  17. Hi there, little woman! Don't worry...the sunshine is headed your way, I think. We've had lots of sunshine and relative warmth here the last couple of days. We're expected to hit a record on Friday somewhere close to 70!!! Then the bottom drops out over the weekend with temps struggling to make it to the 30s! :-( This is a great winter table for a lot of reasons: You've got the throw which just automatically throws one's state of mind into the cold winter months. You've got the neutral colors going on, too. I like neutrals year round, but in winter they just seem warm and comforting. I like how your napkins work so well with the throw. FUNNY how you stayed during the fire alarm!!! With prices like that, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same! Your food looks really good. I have been craving shrimp lately. I'm sure it's nothing here like it is there. Us folks in the Midwest are used to that "day old" stuff, though! :-) Have a great week, and I hope things brighten up real soon!!!

  18. As cute as this Manly Man's table is, the food has my rapt attention! We had cheese and crackers plus some raw veggies and wine because I was tired! (Or Tarred, as some here say ;>P

Great idea by the way, to use a pair of throws as a table cover. Thanks for the party!

  19. Hi Kathleen. I am back from taking a long break. Love your masculine table. The throws give the table such a nice look. I have admired those soup tureens before. Yes, I don't think a fire would stop you from grabbing up all those marvelous bargains :).

  20. Great idea to use those gorgeous throws as a basis for your terrific table! I always find it a challenge to create a t'scape that looks more masculine but you've done a wonderful job! The checked napkins are perfect too! I love finding outlet stores as you really can get great deals - never thought of people selling them on Ebay though! I have my doubts on how "reformed" you are when it comes to excess shopping for deals, Kathleen!

  29. Your subtle tablescape resembles my wardrobe!! I adore black & white & tan together & wear it frequently...with bright red lipstick for a splash of color. LOL

I am impressed that you went back for your bargains after the fire alarm. You have your black belt in shopping!!

I don't know if my recap of 2012 would have qualified for this party, as it just has photos of various foods served on the island. I won't link up unless you tell me otherwise. I don't want to misbehave & not follow the rules.

I think it is good that you are encouraging folks to get rid of that verification stuff. I put an explanation of how to do it on my sidebar.

    Warm Hugs,
    Rett

  30. I think I am too early for your winter and ice challenge, I may have to link back to this one. Sorry. Didn't realize until after I had posted!
Well, perhaps I can be an inspiration, haha. (Yeah, right.)

I LOVE your "guy friendly" tablescape - oh and your bargains, too! Whoo hoo!

    Thank you for hosting!

  34. Your color scheme is perfect for January weather, Kathleen. Snow is in the forecast this weekend. Your salad looks delicious - love seafood cakes and shrimp.

  35. Masculine, maybe, but I think it looks very refined also. What a great deal on the throw - something I have to remember to look for too.

We've been having a bit of a warm spell here the past couple of days and all of our snow is melted now! Big temperature changes coming up in the week ahead though, so we won't put away the warm throws just yet :)

  36. I love those throws but I certainly didn't need one yesterday! It got "warm" here ;o)

When I was in Pottery Barn yesterday, they had a beautiful grey bed was and we adored it. Of course, it had a million pretty pillows on it that I would have to buy. LOL This is a great table for January. It "cleanses the palate".

  37. I'd say sophisticated. The gray throws are wonderful. I'm probably too late to jet by Kahls in search of them. I never show Sweet Mister pics of your menu items. I don't want him to realize what he's missing! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

  38. You want cold weather? Come to Colorado! It has been 0 to 13 degrees since we arrived..lol! It feels less cold than it would in NYC, however, as it is a dry cold.

I survivd the move and now I await the moving truck tomorrow --wish us luck!
